The grand opening of Pleasure Beach Resort’s revamped Launch Pad ride is one step closer, with engineering reaching a significant milestone today.
A 200-foot cylinder, which journeyed over a thousand miles across Europe before reaching Blackpool, has been craned into place at the heart of the ride.
This marks a key moment in the project, with the cylinder being the central element responsible for transforming the ride experience.
The cylinder is made up of five sections, each weighing 1.9 tons—roughly the same as an Indian rhinoceros.
Once assembled, the total weight of the cylinder is equivalent to that of a large African elephant, a military tank, a cruise ship anchor, or the bell of Big Ben.
It also exerts a pressure of 105 PSI, meaning each square inch inside the cylinder experiences a force of 105 pounds.
